2012 Grades, Position by Position, Running Backs

If the quarterbacks had a bipolar year, the running backs were busy redefining the term “inconsistent.” The Steelers finished the year 20th in rushing attempts (412), and 26th in rushing yards (1537). That hardly qualifies as “Steelers football.” You know, the game we are all familiar with, when the Steelers run the ball down the opponent’s throats?

Three’s a Crowd in Steelers’ Backfield

There are times when I miss the hi-jinx of Jack, Chrissy and Janet on the popular ’70′s and ’80′s show ‘Three’s Company’ simply because it was great comedy built around a simple premise and it didn’t take itself too seriously at all. For you youngsters, I highly suggest you check out that show on Netflix …

So is it the “hot hand” or is it Rashard Mendenhall for the Steelers?

Jonathan Dwyer has 2 100+ yd games this season

As the season moves along for the Steelers we might be finding ourselves in the middle of a running back controversy in Pittsburgh. Now, by controversy I don’t mean something that necessarily divides the team like a quarterback controversy can but rather who Mike Tomlin will start vs who everybody else (including the players and …

Steelers escape New York despite odds stacked against them

They did the right thing in flying in for a road game on the day of the game. It was their only option since clearly Commissioner Roger Goodell had no intention of postponing this game. Even when the NBA and the New York City Marathon were being cancelled or postponed, the National Football League would …

The Steeler Nation has high expectations for its’ Men of Steel and why shouldn’t we? This team has been competitive for so long now that even an occasional .500 season is nothing more than a speed bump as we expect our team to be in contention for a Super Bowl berth each and every season. The …

Dwyer with another 100 yd performance in Steelers win over Redskins, 27-12

This year has been a transition year for the Steelers; figuring out just what exactly is “Steelers Football” has been tough to say the least, but Jonathan Dwyer and the offensive line are trying to clear things up. On a day where the division rival Ravens were on a bye, the Steelers seized the opportunity …

Onward Steelers; No Excuses for the Offense This Week

If you go by what Pittsburgh Steelers’ owner Art Rooney, Jr said in his post-2011 season comments, the need for a new offensive coordinator was to help Ben Roethlisberger ‘tweak’ his game, get better in the red zone and return the team to a more solid running attack. Exit Bruce Arians and enter Todd Haley. …

Time for Steelers to embrace change in the running game

When it comes to things you can set your clock you by in sports, you can all but guarantee that NFL fans will jump on the bandwagon of a young player who performs well in a big game. It’s no different for Steelers fans as we continue to endure the changing of the guard at …

Onward Steelers; Like It or Not, Time for Back-Ups to Step Up

Head Coach Mike Tomlin came down from on high for his weekly press conference and announced what sounded more like a list of soldiers in the infirmary rather than a list of injured football players. Rashard Mendenhall, Isaac Redman, Maurkice Pouncey were called ‘questionable.’ Troy Polamalu, Marcus Gilbert and Chris Carter are each ‘out’ for …

Onward Steelers; Saunders, Mendenhall and More

Over the last 72 hours I’ve discovered a lot about myself as a writer for one of the great Steelers’ websites online today and I’ve also discovered a lot about the power of social media and the fact that sometimes people just don’t get it. One thing for sure in the days following one of …
