A. Harrison Out, Woods In

Steelers release backup LB Arnold Harrison
Tuesday, November 17, 2009
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Backup linebacker Arnold Harrison is the first confirmed victim of the three touchdowns scored against the Steelers kickoff team.

The Steelers today released Harrison, who has been with the team off and on since 2005. They replaced him on the roster with linebacker Donovan Woods from their practice squad.

Harrison missed all of last season with a torn ACL -- he has had surgeries on both ACLs in his knees. He had seven tackles on special teams this season.

Woods was an undrafted rookie last season from Oklahoma State. He played in five regular-season games between stints on the practice squad in 2008.

For more on the Steelers, read the new blog, Ed Bouchette On the Steelers at www.post-gazette.com/plus. Ed Bouchette can be reached at ebouchette@post-gazette.com.

I Would Expect More Changes To Come

3 touchdowns in 4 games is worthy of more of a shake-up than the release of one guy. I would also be in favor of releasing Stefan Logan. He impressed in pre-season and has been a bust ever since. Tired of him catching kick-offs 5 yards deep in the end zone and returning them to the 10 or 15 yard line. I thought the unstated rule was if its short of the end zone you return it and if its deep in the end zone you take the touchback. I think we could do just as well or better with Mewelde Moore, Mike Wallace, and Santonio Holmes returning kicks. Make room for someone else on the roster. Logan is also a gunner on kicks yet I never see him making any tackles.

Tomlin said to expect to see Wallace more in the return game...Could mean he saw it too!

They aren't going to release Logan just yet, he showed enough earlier in the year to warrant keeping him around. Besides if we don't then all we have to return kicks is Wallace, Moore, or Holmes. You don't want Holmes back there and you don't want Moore back there unless you have too. Wallace would be an option to try out and see how it goes.

Wasted roster spot IMO. Not getting us great field position on returns. Not making tackles as gunner on kicking teams. Dump him! Use regulars on special teams. Its a fallacy that there is a greater risk of injury on special teams. Most injuries I see are a result of these scrums with piles of bodies on top of each other (like Troy's knee injury in the first game of the season).

Logan is directly to blame for last weeks return and one other. He can't get off blocks to save his little ass!

If you do put starters on KR then they'll definetly get tired faster and we need Holmes' and Wallace's speed in the passing game. I was hoping Burnett or Lewis could give it a shot cause either Logan sucks or the Blocking sucks or both

wow we canned a guy and got one off the practice squad to repair our broken special teams ??? how about get a kicker who can make the endzone ??? oh and maybe a kicker who will try to tackle someone on a kickoff ?? some said he was not hired to tackle - but i don't know one player on a team who would let a guy run by him for a touchdown and not do everything possible to stop him - except jeff - twice ????
