Roster Cuts

According to Dave Lolley
of SCI.com

QB's (3) St. Pierre Makes it the other 2 are obvious.

RB's (5) Willie, Najeh, Davis, and Russell are locks. Leaving Kreider and Haynes fighting for last spot.

WR's (5) Ward, Holmes, Wilson and Reid are locks. Washington and Young will fight for the last spot.

TE's (3) Miller, Tuman & Spaeth all make it.

OL (10) Starters Smith, Faneca, Mahan, Simmons and Colon. Back-ups Starks, Kemoeatu, Philip, Essex and Capizzi. Okobi gets a visit from the turk. Capizzi is on the bubble but is also their best option at 2nd team LT and they don't think he would last 5 minutes on the practice squad.

DL (7) Hampton, Smith, Keisel and Hoke are locks. Kirschke is likely as well. Eason and McBean should round out the final 2 spots. Nua.....we hardly knew ya.

LB (8) Haggans, Farrior, Foote, Harrison, Timmons, Woodley, and Kriewaldt are locks. 1 spot left.....Arnold Harrison gets it.

DB's (9) Polamalu, Townsend, Clark and Taylor will start. Backed up by McFadden, Smith, Gay, Colclough and Carter. Chidi was made expendible by Gay and also gets a visit by the turk.

Specialists (3) Reed, Sepulveda and Warren.

These are the final 53 as predicted by Dave Lolley.

I have no problem with these cuts except I would like to see 1 less DL spot and 1 more WR spot. Would like to see Young and Washington make it. Send Eason or McBean to the practice squad.

they have reid on there twice as a wr and as a specialist

I think the final RB spot is more between Kuhn and Kreider than Haynes and Kreider. I like Verron alot but coming back from the injury he just hasn't shown as much as I hoped. He can play ST though and he's a demon there but if it comes down to it, Kreider is my pick.

We need to carry 6 WR's IMO, with this renewed emphasis on the passing game. Granted we do have another spot at TE now with Spaeth who can catch but still, I'd like to see us carry 6 WR's.

I don't think we can sacrifice 1 DL spot because we only have 3 DL as it is and if one goes down then you are using one of your backups to start and you're down to 1 reserve guy, we gotta carry 6 DL so they can be rotated in and out and stay fresh in the 2nd half.

We can sacrifice one DB spot and carry 8, we don't need 9. Let Coc go !

Lolley has us keeping 7 DL.

We can put Capizzi on the practice squad, he won't last a day. We've seen what Starks can do we need to keep Capizzi if not only for his age and size.

I agree with you. The best player we currently have on the roster to back up Marvel Smith at LT is Jason Capizzi. He is young and a raw talent but he has shown a lot of potential. Enough so that he would not last on the practice squad. If we put him there we will lose him to another team. Marvel Smith has had injury problems and we cannot afford to end up with Starks or Essex playing at LT........not if we value Ben Roethlisberger's health.

Why not let essex go and let Starks back up Colon. I've heard that our offensive line coach focuses more on tech. skills which should great for young linemen. Starks makes too much to keep him around to do what he does. He'll be gone next year.

My bad, I can't count

Im just not sure McBean has shown enough to warrant keeping him but then again Eason hasn't shown much more so it's probably a toss up at this point.

Even though it wouldn't break my heart at all to see Ricardo Colclough cut.....But if he is cut then the Steelers will only have 4 corners on the 53 man roster....That will leave that position alittle thin.....

Keeping 7 DLineman doesn't make to much sense.....I could see keeping 7 if both Eason and McBean were having great camps/pre-seasons...But both have been lack luster so far so keeping 6 would be wise.....

I agree with keeping 6 WRs........

As for Dan Kreider....I think the FB will less used in this offense....But I still think there is a need to keep Dan Kreider.....For those crucial short yardage/goal line situations were a great blocking FB is so important.....

Keep Parker, Dookie, Russell, Davis and Kreider.......
