Poll: Quality of Professional Sports re: $$$$$$

I hear people complain all the time about how professional sports players don't care because they're making gazillions of dollars.

Do you believe the quality of pro sports would be massively improved in any way, or basically the same if the athletes didn't make the high salaries they do, but instead pulled in "average" paychecks- like, say, $75,000 per year?

To the first post:
$75,000 isn't "average", but if they had less money, some would be less whinny. As for the troublemakers, it has nothing to do with money. If they had $5 in their pocket, they'd still be thugs. They need their @$$ beat by their parents. The ego comes just as much from being talented as being rich.

IOW, less money would solve a few, but not most of the problems in professional sports.

To the second post:
They're paid so much because of supply and demand. If people wouldn't pay $80 for nosebleed tickets, they wouldn't sell any and go bankrupt. $80 is what the market bears. If fans used their brains, they would be in control of the pricing in the league. But, like always, the vast majority get hosed because they don't know how the world works.

Well the teams make so much the reason they get paided so much is becuze of Free Agent Market its how much a onwer is willy to pay

It's called capitalism! Part of what makes America great even though one of our major political parties would like to squash that. I will let you guess which one im talking about. Because politicians cannot control private industry salaries (yet, but one party would like too) a doctor who saves lives in an ER all day will make less money than a third string QB who holds a clipboard all season. Is it fair? Of course not. But the government has put their noses into the healthcare system which is why it is now failing and looks to be headed for far worse places. Every country that practices socialized medicine has some of the worst healthcare.....its no coincidense.

As long as our country remains economically prosperous and entertainment continues to be our #1 vice to escape the boredom of our everyday lives, entertainers which includes athletes will continue to make exhorbitant salaries. Should this countries economy ever experience another crash like the one that precluded the great depression you might find that these athletes would be in the bread lines right behind you. The first thing that people give up when they are fighting for survival is the entertainment dollars. Why do you think the worlds best athletes all come here to play their respective sports? This is the only country where they can become millionaires for playing a sport. Most of these international athletes come from countries where the athletes have to work a second job to provide for their families.

We the fans, enable these guys to be filthy rich by the premium prices we are willing to pay to be entertained!
