Former Steeler sportswriters take on 1st round value

    * The great Vic Ketchman, now working for the Jaguars, released his personal top 32. In "Ask Vic" he warns readers that he is not a scout, but a sportswriter. He still talks to scouts along the way, since he's an excellent sportswriter. And notice where the Steelers pick, because Vic, who covered the Steelers from 1972-1994, always has them in mind, as well as PA players.

    # Player / Comment
    1. Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma
    Sensational running skills.

    2. Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech
    Big, fast, athletic, smart.

    3. Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin
    Best of the big guys.

    4. Alan Branch, DT, Michigan
    Dominant force inside.

    5. Levi Brown, OT, Penn State
    Light-footed pass-blocker.

    6. Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska
    Disruptive and relentless.

    7. Reggie Nelson, S, Florida
    Best athlete in this draft.

    8. Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida
Showed in title game what he can be.

    9. Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson
    Good year for defensive ends.

    10. Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville
You don't find linemen this bright and young.

    11. Darrelle Revis, CB, Pitt
Top athlete ready for next level.

    12. Laron Landry, S, LSU
    Great size and speed.

    13. Jamarcus Russell, QB, LSU
I'm not crazy about him but he's a QB.

    14. Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame
Better on paper than in big games.

    15. Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State
    The perfect football player.

    16. Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas
    Get 'em while they're hot.

    17. Ray McDonald, DT, Florida
    Very underrated performer.

    18. Leon Hall, CB, Michigan
    In the Ty Law mold.

    19. Aaron Ross, CB, Texas
    Nice size for a corner.

    20. Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas
Outstanding in coverage; just a little small.

    21. Jon Beason, LB, Miami
    Run and hit guy.

    22. Lawrence Timmons, LB, Florida State
    Run and hit guy, too.

    23. Patrick Willis, LB, Ole Miss
    Tackling machine.

    24. Sidney Rice, WR, South Carolina
    Big-time risk/reward.

    25. Ted Ginn, WR, Ohio State
    Speed exceeds production.

    26. Marshawn Lynch, RB, California
    Fantastic production.

    27. Ben Grubbs, G, Auburn
    Classic road-grader.

    28. Ryan Harris, OT, Notre Dame
    Begins next wave of tackles.

    29. Tony Hunt, RB, Penn State
Pounder with some wiggle and burst.

    30. Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan
Runs like a linebacker; true left tackle.

    31. Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee
Big, fast guy on the outside.

    32. Arron Sears, G/T, Tennessee
    Physical and versatile.

I still believe that Paul Posluzny would not be a bad pick! Still hoping for Anthony Spencer who isn't even on this list, but I wouldn't be upset with Posluzny in black and gold! Keep in mind these are not draft predictions! These are draft value only! Haven't seen anyone with Adrian Peterson going to the Raiders with the first pick.

I'm glad to see he doesn't think to much of this years QB class
Posluszny is a damn good LB, I think he lost some confidence after getting hurt last season, give him some time and he'll be hard to handle in the NFL.

Pox reminds me of a Mike Vrabel kinda guy, a scrapper, tough guy who just comes to work everyday with his hard hat on and ready to kick some ***.

I wouldn't mind him coming to us either, although I think he'd be more of an inside LB guy for us, but you never never know.

Definitely would be more then capable of taking over for Farrior. You know what? **** it.....day 1 of the draft.....all LB's!!! Lets get back to the day of teams being scared to play us, knowing they will get their asses handed to them, play after play after play. When teams see the Steelers next on their schedule, they will start to shake in fear and pee all over themselves knowing whats getting ready to be unleashed on them come sunday!!! BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS!!!!!

I have seen some shows where old time players from the 50's and 60's talked about how even though the Steelers were a horrible football team that didn't win games, the injury list always grew after playing us! They had a rep of being a hard nosed and sometimes "dirty" team. Teams did hate to play us because we had nothing to lose and played like that!
