My WR steal no longer flying under the radar!

One of the drafts secret weapons is apparently no longer a secret! I have been pimpin Steve Smith out of USC for weeks now and pre-combine he was being shown as a 6th to 7th rounder. If you got this guy even in round 6 it would have been a huge steal! Well......Mel Kiper now has him as the 17th overall player in the draft! I don't think he will go in the first round, but I no longer think he will be around in the 6th either! With the addition of Mahan I am hoping we draft like this on day 1!

    1. Anthony Spencer/OLB
    2. Chris Henry/RB
    3. Steve Smith/WR

This is what Mel Kiper says about Smith!

    17. Steve Smith, WR, USC (5-11½, 198) | previous: Unranked
Sure-haneded and faster than advertised at the combine (4.44 40-yard dash). Smith is one of the best receivers at doing damage after the catch.

WR in this draft is definitely an option we need to persue. From the looks of it you're right he won't make it that long till day 2, but if for some reason he falls later on day 1 he could be an option for us.

Does Mel have him ranked 17 total or 17th best WR? To me he was never 7th round material but definetly not 17 best player either.

You can find his rankings on the ESPN draft page. He has Smith 17th overall.
I don't agree with that ranking but don't see him sliding to day 2 anymore!

Koopa is just mad because Chuck Wan Okobi's days are numbered!

As long as Mel likes him then we should go after him at all costs, I mean after all Kiper is the expert of all experts right?

Really though, with Arian's talks of using more multiple WR sets it would behoove us to check into a WR at somepoint.

He is a great route runner and possession receiver. Jarrett got all the hype but Smith was the better receiver. He is a guy who lets his play do the talking. One year with the Steelers and he would be a fan favorite!

Not all USC receivers like Meshawn Johnson

We had a decent WR from USC in Lynn Swann! I live out in SoCal so I unfortunately get to watch a lot of USC football. Steve Smith can play ball! Even though I don't agree with Mel Kiper on him being a first rounder, I would still love to see him in black and gold!
