Townsend breaks thumb

What is it with Steelers and their thumbs! I think Ben & Townsend need to invent a little brace to protect the thumb, kind of like the Joe Namath and the knee brace!

Starting cornerback Deshea Townsend has a slight fracture of his right thumb and will not play in the Steelers' preseason game Friday at Philadelphia, coach Bill Cowher said Wednesday.

Cowher, speaking at his weekly news conference from training camp, said he is "optimistic" Townsend will be ready for the season opener Sept. 7 against Miami. Townsend injured the thumb making an interception in practice Tuesday.

I wonder who threw the bullet that broke his thumb? The good thing is he will be ok for the season opener!

How do you break your thumb catching the ball!......

At least it doesn't sound too bad. I'm sure he could play if they really needed him to. He's got about 2 weeks to heal up.

Sounds like he tried to catch the ball with his thumb bent over the hands (like I did at a Pirates game and a foul ball and I broke my thumb). At least he'll be back around the opener and if he isnt ready then one of our young guys I'm sure will be ready to step up.

I guess we should be happy that most of the injuries in camp are nothing major or season threatening but geez !! Enough already !

Yeah if he rests up his thumb and only participates in light work outs and stuff he should be good to go with a brace and glove for the opener.

Yeah, thankfully he's a DB and not a WR so he can only knock the ball down and not catch it.

No more injuries. I know this is minor. But I just would like to start the season as healthy as possible.

injuries suck. Lets get the injury bug out of the way before the season starts.
