Neither Goodell nor the Supreme Court had ANYTHING to do with this. It was a small panel of bureaucrats at the patent office. Snyder will take this to the Federal courts and has a good chance of winning.

This was a ridiculous move by the Patent board. Who in the hell gave them the right to decide what is or isn't offensive/right?

Federal trademark law prohibits registration of marks that may disparage persons or bring them into contempt or disrepute.

so the answer to your question is... we did.

regardless, it will likely be overturned on appeal... and if not, the irony will be the market being flooded with knock off Redskins gear, unprotected by trademark law.

If the patent office finds the name disparaging then maybe the U.S. copyright office should stop approving all text books using the redskins name. Not that I care but it doesn't make sense why one government agency finds the name disparaging while another one stands idle. The rule has to be set across the whole board.
