Don't get me wrong, I believe the criticism of Pouncey over the last couple of seasons has been way over the top. I wanted him signed but that is a lot of money for a guy who has only played "football in shorts" since blowing up his knee last September.
Which also leads me to believe that there is a clause in the contract regarding his health.

    Didn't he get 5 for 42?

Well, if it's any consolation, he's looked fantastic from all reports. Including what Ben said he saw. And reports are saying he's taken control in the leadership dept. You can't ask for more then that at this point. If he plays well this season (and I strongly feel he will) your concerns will be put to rest and then we can focus in on Hayward's extension and finding more help at the safety position next year (Troy will be gone I'm assuming)

Well, NFL contracts are not guaranteed so they would only be stuck with the $13 million signing bonus if they cut him regardless of the reason (health, poor play, he keeps wearing "Free Hernandez" hats, etc.).

    Pouncey: 6-year, $48M = $8M per year
    Mack: 5-year, $42M = $8.4M per year

He is just as good as mack.

Give the browns a slight nod at center since pouncey is coming off an injury, but fully healthy the two are neck and neck. So it was essentially a market deal.

No on appreciates him, i still have nightmares about hartwig. He led the league in sakcs given up for a center over 5 years 3 year after he was out of football...thats an insane statistic.

Yeah, what I meant was that its not unheard of for players with a history of injuries to have a clause in the contract (lossely described) which states that he'll only get the full worth of the contract if he dresses for all of the games or a certain percentage at least.

Including Pouncey's final year of his rookie deal, in the equation is dumb.

    Pouncey: 5-year, $42M = $8.8M per year
    Mack: 5-year, $42M = $8.4M per year[
