At what point should we start playing for draft picks?

Now I should point out now, that I'm NOT saying that we should start 'tanking it' in right now and entering what I'm calling 'The Jadeveon Clowney Sweepstakes', mainly because The Steelers are coming to Wembley this Sunday and I don't want to spend the best part of £100 just to see them lose in what might be my one and only chance to see them. However, I think it is clear to most of us, that the playoffs are going to be a bit of a stretch this year, so at what point should we stop trying?

Not only does a bad performance give us good draft status, but also gives us a better schedule for next year, so maybe THEN we can make a run.

As much as I'd like to see them get a really high pick and as even though part of me feels that if they aren't going to the playoffs they should be 0-16, I have a hard time rooting for them to lose.
