What do you offer Polomalu in terms of an extension?

b.) based upon what he's capable of?
c.) the exact same deal that Ed Reed has?
d.) one of the above discounted for the multiple concussions that he
already has on his resume?
e.) or do you wait until next year because of d.), figuring that you'll
have to do a.) anyway?

I don't think we can afford to wait on a player like Troy to play out the 2007 season. He'll be snatched up quicker than anything to the highest bidder as soon as FA starts. I think we have to be proactive with him and offer him a deal this year that is comparable to Ed Reed. I don't think it will take that much to sign him though, Troy is a fair and down to earth guy so he doesnt need to be the highest paid player but you also can't offer him too little that it becomes insulting to even try. When you sign players to extensions you take into account what they've done and also hope that they will continue that trend in the future. It's a risk either way.

I think we need to give him alot as I heard, and you prolly did too, that his wife misses her family in CA and wants to move back there.

Well they can move back there during the offseason and stay in Pittsburgh during the season. We've invested way too much into Troy to let him go IMO

I do not see the Steelers franchising him. Plus final cap numbers are not in for 2007. So we still have to wait and see what the steelers have in open cap space. Due to the not likely to be earned incentive clause.

ive always been afraid of him wanting to go to california, but i did read a nice article about pittsburgh growing on him....personally i think he is hands down the best safety in the nfl and should get paid for it, we need him, i would hate to see him playing for a so-cal team and having to wear something gay like powder blue.
