    Tunch Ilkin?

Read something the other day where Tunch was named to the all 75-year Steeler team or something of that nature. I could be wrong here, but I just don't remember Tunch being that good. Not a bad player, just not an elite, all-time Steeler great. I believe he was a good pass blocker but struggled in the run game. IIRC, didn't his stance tip off opposing defenses to rather the play would be a pass or run (by the position of his rump)?

When I think of some of the more underrated Steeler lineman I think of:

    John Jackson

    Justin Strzelcyk

    Carlton Haselrig

    Terry Long

    Thoughts?

Duval Love was pretty good too. And I thought Craig Wolfley was pretty good as well.

Could be, just don't remember it. Thought he was OK, not elite.

Tunch was the victim on being on some bad teams. He wasn't an All Pro, but he certainly was an above average player. John Jackson was another one, he was even better than Tunch as a pass blocker.

Yes, I just don't remember Tunch being good enough to be on the 75 year Steeler team. Not saying he was bad, but I am ot sure he ever made a pro-bowl. We have had some fine OL over the years.

Tunch went something like a 3 year period where he gave up only one sack. He was a GREAT pass blocker and made the pro bowl twice.

A piece of trivia I always remembered about him is that his mother was Miss Turkey at some point in the 1950's. :-)

Yes, I remember the streak with the one sack and his Mom being Miss Turkey! Just surprised he being on the all 75-year team.
