so did anyone else pick up on this little comment by Lebeau?

"He's shown us a lot of instinctive football ability," defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said. "If the coach doesn't mess him up, I think he's got a chance to be a pretty good player."

What coach will mess him up? Butler? Tomlin? Should'nt coaches be making the players better not "messing them up?"

I think he was speaking tongue in cheek. Basically, Lebeau is saying that the kid has a ton of talent and if we (the coaching staff) cannot make him into a good football player it is our fault, not Jones's.

As far as the previous comments, it is very true that we are talking about "football in shorts.' What else are you going to talk about in June? :-)

The best part is that both articles use mostly the same quotes from coaches to draw almost completely different conclusions.

Both guys needed a story line for an article and chose the opposite conclusions.

I think Dick was using some self-deprecating humor.

Do you have a link to where he said that? I just don't remember seeing him ever say that. Not saying he never said it but I just don't recall ever seeing it. I do remember him saying, after Colbert talking about not seeing a rookie that could come in and start, that Jones could change that if they drafted him. I'll try to find that a little later.
