Ed Bouchette: Teammates cannot believe Dwyer is in such lousy shape

--- Jonathan Dwyer is heavy, real heavy, and his teammates cannot believe he is in such lousy shape. It’s early June, so he has a few months to get into shape, but if he reports to camp this way, his roster spot is in severe jeopardy. Unless there is an injury, he may not make it anyway because as I’ve written, the Steelers are not likely to carry two backup running backs at a $1.3 million salary each. And Isaac Redman is way ahead of Dwyer in the pecking order.

It's a shame when people with talent waste it. If indeed he is way out of shape than he won't make this team...which is a shame because I think he could be a really good back in this league.

It seems Bouchette may be reaching a bit. Dwyer clearly isn't Mendenhall (shape wise), but after reading that you'd expect Casey Hampton...

I've said all along... he won't make the team this year. He didn't do much with his opportunity, and he's a terrible fit for the schematic shift.

Not necessarily. Out of shape for the common guy means 300 pounds. For a professional running back, it could mean looking so so in a uniform but huffing and puffing while running a 40. If that is fat and not abs around that mid section, Bouchette is correct.
