Steelers believe Sean Spence career is over

    From Rotoworld.com

Steelers LBs coach Keith Butler says it would be "miraculous" if 2012 third-round pick Sean Spence played football again.
Spence destroyed his left knee last preseason, tearing his ACL and LCL, dislocating the knee, and suffering a damaged nerve behind the knee. GM Kevin Colbert previously called it an "unknown injury" in the sport. The Steelers do plan to carry Spence on a reserve list in 2013 to see if he can contribute by 2014.
The Steeler way...is the only way.

The nerve damage is the issue. If that nerve re-generates he's home free.

But if it doesn't? He won't be able to walk normal much less play football.

i thought this has pretty much been the consensus for a while now?

truly unfortunate, horrific injury to witness let alone deal with

Agreed. I feel terrible for him as a person but I think he was over-hyped here as a player.

thats a little harsh considering his 2 minutes on the field...

Understood but it was not really my intention to judge him myself based on that short time frame.

I remember when the kid was drafted that there was talk on this forum of him starting as a rookie (before he even played those "2 minutes"). Barring injury, I did not feel like there was a chance of that happening. He is undersized and would have had to show and overcome a lot before we could consider him taking the position over Foote. When he was hurt, the talk here was that we lost the next great Steeler linebacker (I may be overstating the general consensus but only slightly).

I think he could have been a pretty good player, especially on passing downs, but felt many overstated his upside. I just wish that he could be given the chance to prove me wrong.

He was pretty speedy though. That's why I thought they'd convert him to a safety where his size and speed would have been a better fit.

If I remember correctly though, (and I could be wrong) I remember them stating that they had no interest in converting Spence into a safety.
