Looking for answer to Cap question...

Anyone know what kind of cap hit the Steelers would take in releasing Heath Miller? Just curious. His current numbers are as follows:

    S. Bonus
    850,000
    Misc.
    1,946,500
    Cap Hit
    7,958,500
    Dead Money
    4,743,000

Curious on the process/ramifications. Using his big *** contract as an example.

Its the dead money part of you question. The signing bonus is prorated over the years of the contract. So, if I signed a 5 year 100 million dollar deal including a 5 million signing bonus, then 1 million of the bonus would count against the cap each year. If I am cut after year 2, then there is an accelerated bonus hit, meaning the remaining 3 million counts against that cap, unless I am cut after June 1st, then its 1.5 million each year for this year and next. So, Miller's signing bonus wasnt much, but he restructured some salary into signing bonus and that increases his potential cap hit. That is the risk with restructuring.
