Interesting move, doing it this late in the preseason. Nothing on twitter about it just yet other than Jay's comments.
The special teams weren't particularly good or bad in the preseason. They normally struggle because you have so many new players all playing on coverage and return units.
FootballOutsiders had the Steelers ranked 9th in the league overall in ST last year. Plus Brown had the 1,000+ return yards too.
Probably more to this story than just stats.

The more I think about this, the return game hasn't been as good as Tomlin would like. He commented on needing to improve on it in camp and I believe after this past weeks' game as well. Marquis Maze and Chris Rainey have been the main return guys so far.
Amos Jones is the ST Assistant and would probably take over for the time being.
Good... coverage teams have blown goats...

If you read the coaches bio's Amos Jones has been an asistant for 5 years and was givin most of the credit for for developing Sanders and brown on specials Al Everest has been coordinator for 2 years. So i looks like jones was passed over and the teams league ranking has gone from #1 IN COVERAGE TO #9 IN COVERAGE
But given the timing i suspect he may have health issues only because the steelers don't usually operate in this manner

@AdamSchefter: Steelers terminated contract of special teams coordinator Al Everest. Asst. special teams coach Amos Jones will assume that role.
Everest was probably involved in the Sandusky scandal...
