If nobody picks up DJ then they could bring him back next year if they wanted too. He's shown enough that if someone has the roster spot to spare they might pick him up and hang onto him. Not like there would be a waiting list a mile long for him though.
But he doesn't get any more or less for showing up or not showing up in preseason. So he is playing it safe. I imagine he will show up after pre-season game two, three at the latest. That will minimize his risk of injury and yet he still gets 2.7 million and a chance at his 50. Besides he is a speedster, if he gets injured in a way that slows him down, permanently he becomes an average wr.

The difference between Wallace and vJOHNSON IS JOHNSON WILL BE A UNREStricted free agent Wallace will be a restricted FA meaning if he doesn't sign this year we still control his rights next year so if he remains unsigned it's possible he will spend 2 seasons out of football
cmerrifield is spot on regarding DJ.

What happens if Wallace gets hurt in Florida w/ Shaw (freak accident, hammy, etc.)?
If nobody picks up DJ the Steelers could bring him back and put him on IR for 2012. That's assuming they feel the need too given some good TE's on the roster already. If Saunders makes the final cut, then you have Heath it comes down to Jamie McCoy and Leonard Pope mostly and either one would fill in nicely.
It's most likely going to be Miller Saunders and Pope. They may need someone to fill in for Saunders for a few games.
@EdBouchette:
#steelers FB David Johnson will get full RFA tender this year. Ill explain later. If unclaimed as expected, he will go on Steelers IR
So basically if nobody picks him he'll be back an on IR for the Steelers. He'll still be an UFA next year, able to sign anywhere. If Saunders works out this season and McCoy then there might not be a spot for DJ in 2013, but that's a long way off yet.
