New CBA says players can't work out on weekends?

Browsing through twitter this afternoon I came across one from Wes Saunders who apparently was ousted from the Steelers facility along with a few of his teammates.

@Wes_Saunders88: So me, K-Lew and @RealRClark25 were kicked outta the facility today lol apparently the new cba says we can't work out on the weekends! Dang

Now, I appreciate the new CBA as much as anyone. Ten years of labor peace is awesome! However stuff like this just irritates me as a fan. Who the hell cares when the players want to work out in the offseason?! Then you through in the crap of limiting padded practices too. Teams like the Steelers always do better when they work out in pads, we've seen it time and time again.

Yep, says so right here in the CBA itself..btw you can download your own copy or search through it. It's interesting to see what they can and cannot do in the offseason. I did search through it when it was ratified but I've been diving into it a bit more now that we are into the first real offseason with it in place.

Except for certain specified minicamps, any offseason workout programs or
classroom instruction shall be stricdy voluntary. No Club official shall indicate to a
player that the Club's o ffseason workout program or classroom instruction is not volun*
tary (or that a player's failure to participate in a workout program or classroom
instruction will result in the player's failure to make the Club or any other adverse con*
s equences) . O ffs eason programs may take place for nine weeks. Workouts shall be
limited to four days per week; such workout programs are not permitted on weekends.
The nine weeks may include no more than ten days of organized team practice activity.
This does not preclude any player from working out on his own on other days, includ*
ing weekends. Contact work (e.g., "live" blocking, tackling, pass rushing, bump-and*
run), is expressly prohibited in all offseason workouts.

This will increase injuries across the board because the younger players can't afford the private training camps or instructor yet.It is ridiculous the little clauses like that why add that in there

I was listening to Sirius today and Jim Miller was talking about how great it was because it increases the longevity of the players? If I'm a player and an NFL owner, I'd want to be able to work out at the team facility where trainers are there and guys that can help keep an eye on your schedule. If anything you'd want the team staff there to save these workout warriors from themselves. lol

The rule specifically says players can work out on their own during the weekends. Does any workout, even on your own at the Steelers facility not count as working out on your own?

That's the dumb part about it IMO. The players are going to work out on their own so why not let them workout in the team facility where they can be around conditioning trainers of their own team?

Seriously.... I think wearing a leather helmut would reduce injuries. we have the 1934 jersey, they should all wear the 1934 equipment.. that would reduce injury...

In the long term it would reduce injuries. In the short term they would have to hold a replacement player draft.
