Which Tight End is the odd man out?

Now that the Steelers have signed Pope, somebody on the roster right now won't be there when they start the 2012 season.

Heath Miller isn't going anywhere, so either David Johnson or Weslye Saunders will be gone. Who's your pick to make the final cut at TE and why?

I'm still for keeping Saunders around even with the suspension to start the year. Pope can block and catch so that makes DJ expendable IMO.

Pretty tough pick, but I think DJ may be the odd man out. I think Pope might be used more as a pass catching TE than that of a blocker.

After reading the Pope breakdown on Steelersdepot he could very easily be the 2012 version of TE John Gilmore. 10 penalties in 600 snaps makes Kemo look like a HOF caliber guard.

Lastly let's look at what Pope brings to the table. Despite his 6 foot 8 inch size, he is not a very good blocker. He plays too high for starters and has graded out horrible in the blocking department the last two seasons (http://www.profootballfocus.com" ) Also from PFF Pope was targeted 77 times over the course of the last three seasons and he dropped 10 of those passes. He had 4 drops alone just last season. Pope is also a liability in the penalty department as well. In 2011 he was penalized 10 times in total and that tied him for the Chiefs team lead with tackle Branden Albert. 4 of those 10 penalties were for holding while 3 more were for false starts. 6 of those 10 penalties were responsible for stalling Chiefs drives in addition. The difference between Pope and Albert is that Pope played just over 600 offensive snaps while Albert played just over 1070. It is no wonder that Pope was sitting on the street unsigned.

I'm not sure what to make of the signing. I personally thought Saunders and Johnson were making solid contributions to the team. Pope better be one hell of a blocker because Saunders and Johnson were already good offensive weapons. According to the post above, Pope isn't a very good blocker. I personally think the signing is a lateral move.

It's possible Pope was only signed to replace Saunders and will be cut when the suspension ends.

After reading what Strummer posted, it doesnt sound like Pope brings much at all to the table.
