solid back up's are a dime a dozen
Im going under the assumption that either Smith or Johnson will win a backup spot but I'm with Batch for another year. I say just keep signing him to 1 yr. deals until the wheels fall off.
Neither give me Smiffffffffffffffffff

Leftwich, he wont break his wrist on a hand off
There aren't even 32 solid starters in the NFL, much less a bunch of solid backups.
batch is such a weenie in the pocket an has no control over his passes but lefty even though he is injured his throws ate accuraye and he has an arm for days
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of and experienced backup quarterback and it appears they might reach into their past in order to fill the position. With Troy Smith and Jerrod Johnson currently on the roster behind Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers have interest in bringing back Byron Leftwich.
As they deal with some salary cap issues, the Steelers, according to pittsburghlive.com are interested in re-signing some former players to new contracts. The paper reports that the Steelers are interested in Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch as possible candidates to return in 2012. Neither player are candidates to land a spot on another team’s roster for 2012. Both players are both familiar with the Steelers offense and will likely come with a salary cap friendly number moving forward.
According to the newspaper, Pittsburgh hasn’t ruled out bringing back OL Max Starks and RB Mewelde Moore next season as well. Starks has been rehabbing after an ACL injury and won’t be able to practice until later this summer. If Starks is unable to return, look for the Steelers to possibly address his offensive line position through the draft with the 24th overall pick in the first-round of next month’s NFL draft.
The return of Moore could be useful heading into next season, especially given the uncertainty surrounding the availability of RB Rashard Mendenhall next season. The Steelers could use some experience in the backfield.

Batch as #3 but look around for an upgrade for #2.
