Issues at Center cause a ripple affect.

He's been in the league for 2 seasons now and without a doubt is the Steelers best Center since Jeff Hartings and before that Dirt Dawson, is Maurkice Pouncey. After all the years of suffering through the Sean Mahan's at Center it's nice to have a guy like Pouncey who you have confidence in to be effective for a long term.

The Steelers aren't used to having issues at Center since literally keep them around for a good 12-14 years or so normally. Now with Pouncey in the fold you would think things would get back to status quo. You would hope at least.

Last year in the Jets game when he had the bad high ankle sprain and didn't play in the Super Bowl you figured he'd be good to go in 2011. Training camp comes, preseason and suddenly he's got problems again. Off and on through out this year he's been in and out of the lineup and it's of course been a problem trying to fit in Legursky or Essex at Center in his place. That disrupts everything else you do because Legursky was taking over Kemoeatu's spot LG before his injury problems started. Is Pouncey's injury going to be something that we see him having issues with for years to come?

Only time will tell but the Steelers need to be prepared and have a quality Center ready to step in and stop this Legursky, Essex, merry go round.. You want your starting guys intact as much as possible and anytime you stick somebody at a position and they are the primary backup for another you run the risk of problems.

It wouldn't be such a bad thing to take somebody on the line and make them the primary backup at Center and just leave them there. Allow them to be the main backup somewhere else too but if you make them a starter you're going to potentially have problems again.

I have to admit I'm somewhat concerned with Pouncey's ankle next year and in the future. when he first reinjured it in the Falcon's preseason game, near the goal line, that's something that can happen to anyone at anytime. You're in the middle of all those bodies fighting your man and suddenly you get rolled up on and then it's back again.

I'm telling ya, you know in the back of his mind he's to be thinking, how much more of this am I going to have to go through? This is the future of the Steelers offensive line for the next 10+ years and he's spent nearly this entire season dealing with this issue.

"I practiced the other day and toward the end I got sore," Pouncey said after practice Thursday. "Today, I came in and my ankle was real sore, so I don't know what the turnout is going to be. Right now, I'm not practicing."

Pouncey was clearly not happy about the turn of events. In previous weeks, he predicted he would play even though he wound up missing two games because of it.
"I'm aggravated with it, I'm kind of stressed about it. I mean an injury prolonged this long is aggravating. Hopefully, I can push through it and see how this week goes."

The problem is that we have no viable backups on our o-line, so Pouncey is forced back in before he is good to go. Same thing with Ben. We don't have a solid run game that can carry us for a number of games so we have to force him back in there. You could, I suppose, say the same thing with Woodley, although I admit that Worilds have not been terrible and the weather have been unfortunate in terms of playing with a Hamstring.

Pouncey and his second level blocking style will have him getting banged up a bit more. He's a search and destroy badass!! It's just his style much like Troy you might just have to expect it..

I can't for the life of me figure out why in the world the Steelers cannot keep a healthy offensive line intact. I know injuries are part of the game but this goes on every year like clockwork. Is it conditioning? Technique? just dumb luck? whatever it is they need to fix it because their never ending story is beyond getting old...

I love Pouncey. I think he's a fantastic center, and can be a tremendous anchor for the line for the next decade. But he's gotta find a way to stay on the field. Two years in a row he's missing time in the playoffs.

I fully understand your pain. wtf. Chris Cooper goes down for the donkeys this week and its the first time (this week) that the off. line will have a replacement. I guess that is a "benefit" to the Steelers in that we can have guys rotating in at different positions but geez it would be nice to have some consistency. We will see how the donkeys adjust as Cooper was killin it in blocking. Possibly a weak link in communication to Lebeaus confusing defense.
