Yeah, I remember that. People say Pittsburgh is a bad baseball town, but it's really just a town with a bad baseball team. If the Pirates were even .500, let alone a playoff contender, PNC Park would be full every single night.

Freddy Sanchez is officially the Pirates first batting champion since 1983 hitting .345 for the season.

I saw that too!!! That's at least one bright spot for the Pirates
The other thing is the Pirates didn't finish last in the CentralI can't remember the last time they weren't last. Now if the owner can open up his pocketbook and bring in some significant signings this off season the Pirates have something to build on for next year!
In 04 we were 5th ahead of the Brewers, 03-4th, 02-4th, 01-6th, 00-5th, 99-3rd, 98-6th, 97-2nd

See they've sucked so bad lately I haven't even really been following them to know how they have been finsihingI always check to see where thier at, but when you see them at the bottom time and time again it's hard to stay motivated to keep up with them...
Ya we generally dig a giant hole then climb out of last with a week to go

The Bucs have a young core of talented players. I think if they're serious about contending, they should go out and get a good right handed starter, and a consistent power hitting 1st baseman or right fielder.
If they want to compete they need to stop signing all the old washed up players. They could have kept Casey though. He played pretty well for them.
Except for the extended period of time he was hurt and the salary he had
