    Special teams improves...

    Whiz Snatches Steelers Asst. Coach

    POSTED: 9:56 am EST January 20, 2007

TEMPE, AZ -- The Steelers' former Offensive Coordinator reportedly will have a familiar face in his new offices.
According The Arizona Cardinals Football Club's website, new head coach Ken Whisenhunt announced Saturday that he hired Kevin Spencer as special teams coach.
Whisenhunt noted, "Special teams is such an important part of the game and can be the difference between wins and losses. Obviously we want that area to be a strength for our team and we're confident it will be. Kevin has always been successful getting the most from his players, whether it was Antwaan Randle El or Mike Vanderjagt or an undrafted free agent on playing on kickoff coverage. "
Spencer moves to Arizona with over a decade and a half of NFL coaching experience. He spent the last five seasons here in Pittsburgh as the Steelers' special teams coach.
In his second season with the Steelers, Spencer was selected as the 2003 NFL Special Teams Coach of the Year by his peers.

But it wasn't all Spencers fault for the special team struggles this year. When Cowher cut Chidi that was dumb. He is the Steelers best special teams player. Then James Harrison went down with injury. That was another loss for the special team. It wasn't the fault of Spencer's also that the punt returners couldn't hold onto the ball.

Spencer actually did a very good job with our ST over the years, but this past year they were horrible, not completely Kevin's fault. Injuries, loss of Chidi, fumbles in the return game, it was just a bad year all around.

Still though Im not sweating Spencer leaving...
