Dwyer is a head scratcher. With the surgery, Hoke is expected.

The Steelers have placed running back Jonathan Dwyer and nose tackle Chris Hoke on injured reserve and signed linebacker Mortty Ivy and safety Damon Cromartie-Smith from the practice squad.

Ivy, a Gateway High and West Virginia product, and Smith had been on the Steelers' practice squad. Ivy appeared in a game earlier this season when injuries had left the Steelers thin at linebacker. Both Ivy and Smith figure to suit up tonight when the Steelers host the Browns.

Hoke and Dwyer are out for the rest of the season with neck and foot injuries, respectively.

    From the Trib

It's too bad that Dwyer is gone now too. He wasn't getting significant carries and really didn't dress for many games this season. With Mewelde Moore fighting a hamstring it was nice to be able to count on Dwyer to be able to come in. Dwyer has shown enough to the coaches this preseason and regular season to prove he's got a shot to be really successful in the future.

Dwyer hasn't been able to get in shape from day one.
