Absolutely no excuse whatsoever. You cannot allow a team with 1 timeout to drive 92 yds in just over 2 minutes and win the game. Blame falls squarely on the secondary for a horrible day. Blame all around but particularly on the secondary for this one folks. In that situation you have the upper hand. If you told me that the Steelers have a 4 pt lead with 2 minutes to go and the defense is on the field, my money is on them every time to hold on and win the game. Tonight that was not the case, not by a long shot.
Gay was targeted and blown up all day. Ryan Clark did not have a good game, even Keenan Lewis had questionable outing. Taylor got beat way too often and if Smith or Boldin catches any of those passes they dropped, it was over before the end.
I don't understand the play calling late in the drive, Lebeau left the corners man to man on the final 3 plays or so. I get it to the point of wanting to have more guys in for the pass rush, but they didn't get there and it was only a matter of time before Smith caught one of those. He got behind Gay multiple times and dropped sure completions and the one TD. In that situation you just never, never, let anyone behind you. Keep it in front of you and make the tackle. You play a prevent defense for the entire drive, you don't stop them, so you switch man to man and still can't stop them.
