    Al Davis Dead @ 82

Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis died today! RIP

    --- Added 10/8/2011 at 09:55 AM ---

    Davis

Raiders owner Al Davis, whose legend began 60 years ago as an assistant coach with the Chargers and included a 1992 Hall of Fame induction in Canton, has died at 82.

The team's website released the news Saturday morning, posting a simple tribute with his name in large silver letters above "July 4, 1929-October 8, 2011."

The Raiders said the team will issue a statement later Saturday. No cause of death was released.

Well, some of you are going to give me hell but, looks like the Raiders are finally gonna make it back to the SB.

RIP' Al Davis..... I hope people remember him for what he's done for football instead of what he's done to the Raiders the last few years.

I back your statement 100% Brother. I am shocked he's gone. Just out of the freakin blue. I just hope they don't make it anytime soon.
    RIP MR. DAVIS.

    RIP MR. DAVIS.
Sorry that he died, but he ran the team poorly, like the same methods in the 70's still work like today and they do not....

    RIP

Good luck to the new Raiders

Mr. Davis was an NFL icon and I am very sorry to hear of his death. I do think he should have stepped down about ten years ago as personally, I believe he was mentally impaired for that time frame but you cannot dismiss or take away from his incredible impact on the leagues development and innovation.

    A very sad day indeed.

Sad to see anyone die, my thoughts are with all those who were close to him. Hopefully he is remembered by what he did for the game.

He should be remembered for the 60's, 70's & 80's not for the last 10 years. Love him or hate him he was a true innovator and a big part of the reason the NFL is what it is today.

He was a purist, old school, type of owner. He did things his way and didn't care what the rest of thought of his actions. Whether you liked him or hated him, he was an important part of NFL history.
