the broke bank for ward and gave him top 5 money back when he was a top 15 WR.

they absolutely would have paid holmes if he didnt smoke so much weed

and wallace is better than both of them, they will pay the man...they will pay their own like usual

Aaron smith, james farrior, hines ward, casey hampton, will all be asked to take a pay cut or leave. players like ben, harrison, troy, woodley, timmons all can restrucutre and prove why the cap alsways has and always will be a joke to work around

Ya but that is even guess work til the new cap comes out. I would be shocked if it doesn't increase. Then again I was shocked it was that low for this year. Either way it is always a numbers crunch for us, but we manage to get through.

James Harrison - "Right now, you know, some people may want to jump on the Steelers bandwagon.
Don't do that. We don't need you. We didn't need you at the beginning, we don't need you now."

If we keep restructuring everyone it only makes it harder to get under the cap later. So if Ben takes 5 million this year and restructures, it adds 1.25 million to the cap hit each of the next 4 years and we save 3.75 million this year. If we keep doing this it will eventually catch up with us, especially if we cut guys or they retire, because that also increases the "dead" money from that.

Without a crystal ball, there's no way I would trade Wallace away for a first rounder. If you told me that the first round pick you would get in return for Wallace would end up being some Anthony Munoz-like tackle, then I would be all for it, but there is no certainty. You know what you have in Wallace, you don't know what you'll get out of a pick and that's why I place a greater value than a first rounder on Wallace right now.

thats backloading restructuring, they can restructure in bonus money that doesnt effect the cap at all. cap is a joke

That is a myth my friend. All compensation counts towards the cap, signing bonus, roster bonuses, salary everything. The only money they get that doesnt count towards the cap is food money on away games. All other money given to a player counts towards the cap.

wrong, signing bonuses absoultely 100% do not count against the cap. When a player recieves a bonus it does not count towards their "salary" for the year and their salary is all the cap reflects

Sorry but your wrong. I just reread the cba. Signing bonuses are divided amongst the years if the contract. So 5 mill signing on a 5 year deal counts 1 mill per year towards the cap. The cap info starts on page 90 of the cba if you want to read it. I can post a link. In fact, if the Steelers buy a player a house, it counts. If a local Pittsburgh business tries to pay a player on the Steelers and the NFL finds out, it counts. Practice squad players count. All compensation counts.

Honestly I think this is a terrific question. I love Wallace, this kid is something else, and all upside. But we do have Sander and Brown, and Cotchery. I want a damn good O linemen. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Ben answer this
