    Greg Lloyd on Roger Goodell

The man who famously "wasn't hired for his disposition" and was the menacing leader of the 1990's Steelers' defense -- Greg Lloyd -- speculates that he wouldn't fare too well in the modern NFL

Not his play, mind you. That would be fine.

But because of his play. That would draw fines.

"I'm pretty sure I woulda lost a lot of money," he said.

Lloyd definitely would have gone broke if he'd have played in today's NFL. Just another reason that the whole "player safety" moniker that the NFL is trying to push down everybody's throat is blown WAY out into left field.

the flags and fines have gotten out of control. only the truly flagrant hits that there is no doubt that they are intentionally trying to hurt someone should be fined, for instance, the brandon merriweather helmet to helmet launch on todd heap last year in the rats/pats game. all these other hits that are being fined are for the most part legitimate plays. watching in real time you can't possibly avoid most of them. that's the problem, these suits rewatch all these plays in slow motion but anyone with common sense who has actually played before, unlike goodell, knows that a guy as big, strong and fast as james harrison can't stop on a dime in a split second when the qb releases the ball. it's one thing to take several steps after the ball is thrown but jesus they are getting ridiculous

I agree. Anyone can watch a play dozens of times, in slow motion, regular speed, fast forward, paused, etc. and dissect the play and say the player should have done "x" or "y" and get inside of the minds of the players. Well, guess what, the players have to make those decisions in real time, without the benefit of rewinding, pausing, etc.

Technology is taking the human element out of the game. I would rather human error than the techno dissectors deciding penalties after the fact days after the game.

    Friggin' ridiculous.
