Polamalu fined $15K for horse collar tackle

Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu briefly scuffled with Ravens running back Ray Rice on Sunday. But that isn`t what proved to be costly for the six-time Pro Bowler.
The NFL fined Polamalu $15,000 for making a horse-collar tackle in the Steelers` 35-7 loss to the Ravens, a league source said.

It came late in the third quarter and at the end of a 36-yard run by Ravens running back Ricky Williams.

"It definitely wasn`t on purpose," Polamalu said of the tackle. "I`ve never intentionally tried to horse collar anybody."

Fines for on-field conduct are handed out after the league reviews questionable plays. They can be appealed to a two-man panel appointed jointly by the NFL and the NFL Players Association.

Polamalu would not say whether he got fined after practice yesterday.
"I`m not a big fan of people being really vocal about the fines," he said.

A fine for a horse collar tackle? Before you know it they'll start fining players for false starts

The NFL can make a statement saying it was for the horse collar, but I honestly don't buy it. It was a combination of that and the fight. I'm sure his actions during that fight weighed heavily on the decision. Troy's never been a dirty player and there is no reason to suspect him of doing that on purpose.

Ya, I don't get it, but saying Troy's fine was for the horse collar allows them to avoid fining anyone else. Not saying it is legit, just saying that's what I got out of this.

Maybe the video the NFL has only gives enough evidence to fine Troy even though they know other people were invovled. They have to be able to justify it in the event of an appeal. I can't imagine there isn't plenty of video evidence, I'm just trying to look for a reason.

Really though, I don't care. It's bullsh*t, but it doesn't really effect anything.

And yet, Casey Hampton had to endure being chop blocked all day long by Birk, Grubbs, etc. without a penalty being thrown. Hmmpf!

    Whatever.
