Troy Polamalu will retire a Steeler.

The strong safety and organization have agreed to terms on a deal that locks up the All-Pro through the 2014 season, the team announced Saturday.
"I am happy to say that I will retire a Pittsburgh Steeler!" Polamalu posted on Twitter.
Polamalu`s had been under contract through the end of this season.

The signature star of the Pittsburgh Steelers' defense isn't going anywhere.

The Steelers agreed to terms Saturday with safety Troy Polamalu on a new four-year deal that runs through 2014, NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reproted, citing a league source.

Polamalu becomes the third top Steelers defender to receive a big deal this offseason -- behind LBs LaMarr Woodley and Lawrence Timmons. The organization has a longstanding, team-imposed cutoff of the start of the regular season in which to have contracts done.

"Happy to say that I will retire a Pittsburgh Steeler!" Polamalu tweeted on Saturday.

The Steelers confirmed the move on their Twitter page.

"We have agreed to a contract extension with (at)tpolamalu signed at airport before we leave for Balt."

The Steelers and representatives for Polamalu had been working hard to beat the team’s deadline to complete a contract extension. Polamalu, the 2010 NFL Defensive Player o
f the Year, has one year and $6.4 million left on his current contract.

As soon as the contract numbers are released we'll post them up.

This is really good news, next year the Steelers are absolutely set for free agency. Nobody major to worry about except Mike Wallace who will be an RFA at that point.

Troy earned this deal, he's been patient and willing to do whatever is asked of him in the organization. The key now, stay healthy man. The Steelers are a different defense when he is on the field.
