    2011 Steelers Team Captains Announced

    Ed Bouchette
    @EdBouchette Ed Bouchette
    #steelers captIns:

    Ben R. Ward, Farrior, and Battle on special teams

    Last year, after an offseason full of turmoil, Ben Roethlisberger's teammates sent him a message by not voting him a team captain for the first time in three years. His teammates sent a different message Sunday, voting Roethlisberger offensive co-captain for the third time in the past four years.

    "Anytime you are voted captain by your teammates, it means a good deal to you," tight end Heath Miller said, who replaced Roethlisberger as captain last year. "Ben has come back and has become the leader of this team, and that was indicative today."
    Roethlisberger was also co-captain in 2008 and '09. Receiver Hines Ward was named the other offensive co-captain, the seven consecutive season he has held that role.
    "He has done a great job of opening himself up to the team and keeping his nose clean," lineman Willie Colon said of Roethlisberger. "He is in a real good, stable comfort place.

    "He has taken on more of a leader role than a lot of us. He is a lights-out player, so why not?"

    Veteran linebacker James Farrior was named defensive captain for the eighth straight year, and Arnaz Battle was named special teams captain for the first time.
    "It is an honor," Battle said. "My teammates have confidence in me to go out there and lead them."

    Who knew a blind youtube sensation could be a special teams captain for the Pittsburgh Steelers?

    Good for Battle! I've been very critical of him in the past so I want to make sure that I give him the credit he deserves. He has "stuck with it" so to speak, had a positive attitude, worked hard, and played very well in the preseason. This is an honor I think he deserves!

    Glad Ben got back on there. Guess he's earned back some respect with his teammates. Hines and Farrior were a given. And good for Battle. I think he deserves it.

    Ben does look good, thinner, throwing the ball accurate and no baggage coming into this year, Thank God! And he has weapons! his weapons could lead him to an MVP season

    Arnaz Battle is a waste of a roster spot. Even more so with the kickoffs from the 35.

    I was most interested in seeing whether Ben was a captain again. I think that's a good thing for the team. Heath is so understated I doubt that he would think twice about not doing it a second year. But for Ben it says a lot.

    I'm not a big Battle fan as such, but the guy have been as solid as it gets during pre-season.
    However much you think you know about football, rest assured that Skip Bayless knows more!
