James Harrison is going to have back problems all through 2011

Steelers linebacker James Harrison was talking to the media over the weekend. When asked about his health, specifically his back he said that he was going to have problems with it all year long and was going to have to play through the pain again just like he did in 2010. He mentioned having shooting pains down his leg on a regular basis.

Now he didn't miss any significant time last year and was able to play through the pain. He also had the 2 surgeries this offseason. He spent a lot of time in his hyperbaric chamber, getting acupuncture, and massages to help speed the healing. Let's face it though, when you start putting on the pads and going full speed it's going to be more present than it was while being able to sit at home for months.

Knowing Harrison, I wouldn't suspect he'll miss time because of it on Sunday afternoons but it still bears watching.

He said he's not 100% but he'll get there eventually. He also said that the shooting pains down his legs are gone:

Eventually means not till after the season is over, LOL. Last I heard from Ken at Trib Live Radio he mentioned he expects this to linger on all year. Who knows really but I would imagine he'll get some rest in training camp to help him out. We all know he'll be ready to play when the time comes.

Harrison strikes me as the type of guy who could tweak his back or hamstring during a set of deadlifts, but would power through just to finish. Last year he battled the pain and played pretty damn well. I am confident he'll do well again this year.

Well, let's hope Jason Worilds has progressed enough ( by the end of camp) to spell Harrison from time to time without significant drop off in performance.

If Harrison does end up having to miss some time due this ongoing problem, which we all feel he mostly won't, it will give Worilds a chance to see more playing time. Tomlin may try and spell Harrison for a series or 2 here and there during games to get Worilds some more reps. That of course would depend on how each game goes but it could happen nonetheless.
