Good morning again,
An innocent Hines Ward was handcuffed at gunpoint by LAPD this morning over a misunderstanding that the car in which he was a passenger was stolen, according to TMZ. Click here: NFL Star Hines Ward -- Handcuffed at GUNPOINT | TMZ.com

All turned out well. It reminded me of a story years ago in which two Pittsburgh writers on a Steelers trip to Houston were pulled over by several police cars while the writers were driving in their rental car. They were ordered out and guns were drawn and aimed at their heads. The car was reported stolen by the rental company. After a long time in which the writers had to take the cops to their hotel room to prove the car was duly rented, they apologized and let them go.

The writers sued the rental car company and received a cash settlement.

This was all done in an effort to keep Hines from winning DWTS!

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Police said Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Hines Ward was briefly detained at gunpoint in a mix-up over a reported stolen car early Thursday morning.

Sgt. Maria Morrison said Ward and a woman friend were stopped in her Honda Civic just before 2 a.m. in North Hollywood because the woman had reported it stolen.

Morrison said Hines was taken from the car at gunpoint and handcuffed until the woman proved the car was hers.

Ward and the woman were both released.

The sergeant said the driver reported the vehicle stolen on April 19 after forgetting where she had parked it. She later found the car but never canceled the report.

Police said Ward was cooperative and understanding. The woman's name wasn't released, but she isn't Ward's partner on "Dancing With the Stars."

Ward's rep., Andrew Ree, told "People" magazine, "It was an obvious mistake. The police were doing their job."

Hines tweeted earlier today and posted on his Facebook that it was all a misunderstanding, apologies were made and it's in the past. I'm willing to bet he probably allowed the officers to get pictures with him and sign some autographs afterwards.

I'm sure Hines wouldn't have had a problem doing that. But I doubt the LAPD really care about a star, the town is full of them. In Pgh. the cops would surely wanted pics and autographs.

It's good to see he didn't act like an asshole!
