The buildup to Jets-Steelers this week has included a remarkable lack of trash talking.
Practically the closest thing we can find is an honest evaluation by Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis about his matchup with Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey.** Ellis believes the rookie could be in trouble.
“Our defense is fairly complicated, so I think he’ll struggle a little bit with the pick-ups on the blitz,” Ellis told the Newark Star-Ledger.
Pouncey made the Pro Bowl, but has at times been out of position when facing complex schemes.* Pouncey says that didn’t happen last time around.
“Hmmm, we’ll see,” Pouncey said when he was relayed Ellis’ comment. “I didn’t struggle last time.”
The Steelers offensive line did struggle against the Jets as a whole in Week 15.* That’s one area they need to improve from the first matchup in order to change the result on Sunday.
