Pat Shurmur to become Browns' head coach

    http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/C...Shurmur-011310

    CLEVELAND (AP)
St. Louis offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur is Cleveland's new coach.

The Browns hired Shurmur on Thursday, ending a search that began when Eric Mangini was fired on Jan. 3. Shurmur was the first candidate interviewed by Browns president Mike Holmgren. Shurmur is the Browns' fifth coach since their expansion return in 1999.

Chris Palmer, Butch Davis, Romeo Crennel and Mangini each failed in trying to build a consistent winner in Cleveland. Now, it's Shurmur's turn. The 45-year-old, who has no head coaching experience, will take over a team that has made just one playoff appearance in 13 years.

Mangini was fired after his second 5-11 season.

No head coaching experience? Sounds more like a Holmgren puppet than a head coach.

Well TBH no stand out coach was going to take that job. Its no secret they wanted Gruden in the worst kind of way. The few key points that turns the big name coaches away are

Lack of talent and a non proven quarterback
An organization, who outside of Holmgren doesn't know what it takes to win.
The big turning point is the fact you have to play Pittsburgh and Baltimore 2 times each year. This is always a tough sell for anyone.

James Harrison - "Right now, you know, some people may want to jump on the Steelers bandwagon.
Don't do that. We don't need you. We didn't need you at the beginning, we don't need you now."

Mangini was fired after his second 5-11 season. I said last year before the season started to one of my Browns fans that they would be 5-11

Sorry Pat, your life has now changed (for the worse).... True statement yo

No head coaching experience? Sounds more like a Holmgren puppet than a head coach. This was done because Holmgren is pulling a (Bill ) Coward move he wanna go to a team that will win now IMO and the Clowns suck, and Tomlin knows the westa coast system well so we will be kicking the Clowns @$$ for years to come LOL
