Panthers WR charged with 2nd DWI in 3 years

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Carolina Panthers' Wide Receiver Dwayne Jarrett was arrested in Charlotte early Tuesday morning for a DWI charge, and this is his second DWI arrest in nearly 3 years.

According to Mecklenburg County Jail records, Jarrett was arrested at 2:08 a.m. during a traffic stop on I-77.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department spokesman Robert Fey, as Jarrett was being booked at the jail, he refused to breathe into an intoxilyzer machine which is used to determine a driver's blood alcohol level.

"A blood kit was performed, the results of which will take several weeks to get back," Fey said.

Previously, Jarrett was arrested for DWI on March 11, 2008, and his blood alcohol level at that time was .12.

On June 23, 2008, Jarrett pleaded guilty to driving while impaired. He surrendered his driver's license and was ordered to perform 24 hours of community service. Jarrett was also enrolled in the first stage of the NFL's substance abuse program.

In an email Tuesday morning, Carolina Panthers spokesperson Charlie Dayton said, "We are aware and gathering more information."

Jarrett has two catches this season, both coming in Week 1 against the NY Giants.

At this time, it is unclear if Jarrett will be playing in Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.

His better be suspended for at least 4 games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. C'mon Goodell show how fair you can be!

WR Steve Smith is "Day to Day" with a high ankle sprain too. So this leaves them is pretty bad shape should they decide to suspend him.

They can't suspend him, he hasn't been proven guilty of anything....oh wait...

Anyways good luck getting outta that one, judges don't like repeat offenders.

PANTHERS CLAIM WR CLOWNEY; FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WAIVE RECEIVER JARRETT October 5, 2010

The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that they have claimed receiver David Clowney off waivers from the New York Jets and waived Dwayne Jarrett.

“I talked to Dwayne and told him the situation here is just not working out for either side,” says general manager Marty Hurney. “We had a chance to pick up off waivers a receiver we considered claiming when he became available four weeks ago. We wish Dwayne the best.”

Clowney played at Virginia Tech and was drafted in the fifth round by Green Bay in 2007. He has spent the last four seasons with the Jets, catching 16 passes for 239 yards and one touchdown.

I don't think even his blood alcohol content is under that.
