CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Carolina Panthers' Wide Receiver Dwayne Jarrett was arrested in Charlotte early Tuesday morning for a DWI charge, and this is his second DWI arrest in nearly 3 years.
According to Mecklenburg County Jail records, Jarrett was arrested at 2:08 a.m. during a traffic stop on I-77.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department spokesman Robert Fey, as Jarrett was being booked at the jail, he refused to breathe into an intoxilyzer machine which is used to determine a driver's blood alcohol level.
"A blood kit was performed, the results of which will take several weeks to get back," Fey said.
Previously, Jarrett was arrested for DWI on March 11, 2008, and his blood alcohol level at that time was .12.
On June 23, 2008, Jarrett pleaded guilty to driving while impaired. He surrendered his driver's license and was ordered to perform 24 hours of community service. Jarrett was also enrolled in the first stage of the NFL's substance abuse program.
In an email Tuesday morning, Carolina Panthers spokesperson Charlie Dayton said, "We are aware and gathering more information."
Jarrett has two catches this season, both coming in Week 1 against the NY Giants.
At this time, it is unclear if Jarrett will be playing in Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.
