LATROBE, Pa. – A situation that seemed so dire just 24 hours before had brightened considerably, even if Chukky Okobi was a little miffed that he missed movie day.
On Tuesday, Coach Bill Cowher announced Okobi, the team's backup center behind Jeff Hartings, would need surgery on a herniated disc in his neck, an injury that had the potential to threaten his season and his career. On Wednesday night, Cowher was happy to provide an update.
"We got some really good news on Chukky Okobi. Chukky had surgery performed today by Dr. Joe Maroon, and everything went very well," said Cowher. "We'll know more in the next couple of days, but there's a good chance he'll be able to play this year. It could be anywhere from four-to-eight weeks, and we'll know more as time goes on."
