I disagree with Ratliff missing the squad....from everything I have read...he almost has the NB wrapped up, or at least the dime spot. Would be weird to see us w/o Tyrone though.

Totally agree with Shipley missing out though...too much homer love for him.

If Ratliff keeps playing like he does right now, there is no way he'll miss the rooster spot.

Seems Redman's been opening some eyes at camp. I thought he looked good Thursday night and apparently he's looking good against our first team defense also.

I am glad to see Urbik on this list. I don't get why fans have been so down on him, saying he looked lost Thursday night. I recorded game then went back to review all offensive plays he was in on and I thought he did well. He stayed on his man and drove. Running plays to his side were positive. When they weren't, back in those situations were too slow in getting in the hole. Few others, pulling lineman, Foster, was too slow in getting over to trap lineman or run up and get linebacker. Urbik was especially good on the second td by redman when he walled off his guy, tank kicked out his and David Johnson ran up the wall to create crease. As a group, I think second group of o-lineman played very well, granted it was against Cardinals second group. It would have been very discourgaging if our second group looked more like bums against their second group, but this clearly was not the case. In fact, I think they played much better then Arizona's squad and as a group, looked better then our first team o-line. Lets not forget this was first preseason game. Game film and more practice will make these guys better. I feel though, coaches have a better base to work from now after this game. They know who is where in terms of development and I think they feel good where they are in terms of establishing who the first team will be and the back ups.
Lets not forget here that Steelers FO draft smart guys with tools. They know its rare for any draftee to see much playing time in first couple of years and thats fine by them because during this time coaches are grooming these players into Steelers who learn how to do it the Steeler way on the field. They learn and live the schemes that continue to feed the system and produce consistent winning teams even after losing key FA's every year.
I liked the Urbik pick. I liked it more after reading his interview and biography. He is a future Steeler cornerstone, Tomlin and his coaches will make sure of that. He has the size and tools, now he has to know how to use them the Steeler way.

Tyrone Carter will make the team...they aren't just gonna have Ryan Mundy to backup both safety positions unless they are gonna move Keenan Lewis or another corner to a safety spot. I say the DBs should be, Ike Taylor, William Gay, Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark, Keenan Lewis, Deshea Townsend, Joe Burnett, Ryan Mundy, and Tyrone Carter. And maybe Sonny Harris to the Practice squad and they can keep another corner ( Ratliff or Madison). And I don't know about Frank Summers. All we can do is wait and see.

Oh and I wouldn't count out David Johnson to make this team. I'm not saying he will, maybe he will be a practice squad guy but from what I've seen, he's a great blocking tight end. And blocking is something Matt Spaeth couldnt do to save his life. Once again I'm not saying he's going to beat out McHugh or Spaeth but watch out for this guy.

According to William DePaoli, Carey Davis is here to stay.
