    Steelers sign C, Cut DL

    http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcnorth/...ter-moves.html

Pittsburgh signed former Ohio State center Alex Stepanovich to add depth to its offensive line. The Steelers recently lost guard and backup center Darnell Stapleton to knee surgery. To make room on the roster, Pittsburgh released defensive lineman Jordan Reffett.

Personally I like the move a decent Center with experience!

Sounds good to me. The guy's got a few years NFL experience under his belt and Reffett was unlikely to ever see any game time.

Smart move. If it helps the team, I'm down.

They had to do something... They should have been looking to do this before the injury to Stapleton. And the should STILL be looking to add another body to compete on the O-Line. They've got nothing to lose.

This is what happens when you let an offensive go year after year after year, and try to plug in a bunch of second rate guys who could barely make the roster before you got to be head coach. Now we're scrambling around trying to find people just to fill the group out. This has been a gripe of mine since Tomlin started with us; Cowher let the OL go to crap the last few years he was with us by not drafting quality people and when Tomlin came in he pretty much ignored the whole group unless you call adding Mahan last year, an upgrade?!!!

Yeah our defense rocks, yeah our ST is getting better, Ben is a great QB, etc. etc. but we won the Super Bowl because of all those I mentioned and inspite of our line. Our Running game is not the epic machine that it once was, not even close.

I'm think this is a solid move. A decent player witha few years under his belt and if he turns out to be good, he can be with Pitt for a good 5-9 years....
If not, he'll be a rent a player.

That just proves my point even more, we're pulling bottom of the barrel guys here that got cut for a reason. The ones that are salary cap casulties but are still good players will usually get snatched up pretty quick and the ones that are still hanging around at this point in camp are nothing to write home about. Our OL is going to be nothing more than a continuation of last year unless these guys suddenly start learning how to get off the ball and pass block as well actually getting a good push so our RB's can find a hole and get moving. At this point there is no reason to think either scenario is going to materialize for us.

If we we're drafting young top guys who just needed time to develop then I'd be ok with our line situation because there would be light at the end of the tunnel, at this point it's all just dark
