    The Center Question

As a general consensus from various internet mock drafts and such I've read through, I'd say center is the most reoccurring position people have us drafting. My question to Steelers Nation is who is the better center, Mack, Unger, or Wood? I've seen us taking all three of these guys from various mocks and want to know what this site has to say.

My favorite is Mack, but I would be ok with Wood or even Shipley. I do not like Unger, I am not sure why, I just dont. I am not sure he is strong enough to handle the NT's that he will have to face. I know a lot of teams seem interested in Mack, so I am not sure he is an option for us at 32, but we will see.

Mack is falling in the mocks right now. I see a lot of mocks with him going in the middle of the second round.
However much you think you know about football, rest assured that Skip Bayless knows more!

I am in a mock and I took Wood over Mack and Unger. I got ripped for it also...lol

I prefer Eric Wood. He can play multiple positions (so can Unger though). There is one guy that keeps saying I should have taken Robinson. I just think he is too slow to play in the Steelers scheme.

wait until they see my next pick (maybe 3rd) of K-trains favorite Lewis..lol

i wouldnt take mack before the 3rd round at this point. unger is the only one worth a first round pick but wood may very well be the best fit for us

the very thought of shipley makes me cringe, id rather just go with legursky

I personally would prefer Wood, but none of those centers intrigue me the least bit, in the first round.

First off people, don't pay much attention to mock drafts. They determine nothing and reveal nothing. They are, for all intents and purposes, useless.

Secondly, Unger is not a first round pick. He is very thin for the position and would need to add probably 10-20 pounds of muscle. He is better at pass blocking at this point in his career and was viewed as a good pass blocker at Oregon, but the system Oregon uses where all the QB does is rollout often makes their line look better than they actually are. I don't think he has a high ceiling and will probably end up as a pretty good back up utility guy. He would be best in a zone blocking scheme.

We all are seeing the same "mocks," especially if you use "hairedskins.com."

I'd say close to 50% of them have us taking Mack (who would be my preferenbce, if we go OL at #32 and there are no pure OTs available), but I've seen some mocks with him "falling?"

What's that about? Injury, since he didnt' perform at the Combine? Did he perform at their "pro-day?"

I'd have to say at this point I'm leaning towards Mack, but I agree with Thomas in that I wouldn't take any in the first. Trading down seems like a good move at this point, especially if we are going to take a center. K-Train I'd have to say most of the time I agree with your critiques why not Mack?
