Making sigs

OK, I have Photoshop CS and when I get home from work tonight I want to try and make a sig for the first time but I need a little help.

1 - Where do I start making a background? I like the clear, clean looking sigs more than the grunge ones. I assume I make a new image say 500x150 or whatever. But where to go from there?

2 - Where do you get pics? I know there are places with some already cut.

3 - How do you cut pics if/when I need to?

Guess that will do for starters. Thanks for any help!

I don't have Photoshop or make any sigs so I can't help with that but I know of this site which has a ton of PSD cuts:

I dont use photoshop, but I find most of my pics online by doing a google or yahoo search, checking out steelers.com or post-gazette.com/steelers if Im making a steelers one.

Normally when I want to cut out a pic I resize it down to where i think it will look right on the sig, then I erase everything but the actual part of the picture I want to use.

First off, 400X125 is the best size to use for a sig. I actually do them 400X110. Start of by making your background, every new thing you do put into a new layer. As far as the picture goes, you can copy and paste them. Just find a pic, right click on it and click copy. Go back into photshop and select Layer>New Layer, then EDIT>Paste. Then selct EDIT>transform>scale to make the pic the right size. Then create a new layer and selct Layer>fill>solid color. Make it black and put it behind your pic then use the eraser to cut out the pic. When you are done cutting out the pic you can do away with the solid black layer. Hope this helps. good luck.
