Manny Pacquiao TKOs Oscar De La Hoya

Manny Pacquiao TKOs Oscar De La Hoya

In the biggest boxing match of the year, Manny Pacquiao defeated Oscar De La Hoya in a dominant, star-making performance tonight in Las Vegas. Pacquiao bashed De La Hoya through eight brutal rounds of boxing, and De La Hoya couldn't answer the bell for the ninth.

Pacquiao, generally recognized as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, came into the fight as an underdog to De La Hoya, mostly because the fight was contested at 147 pounds, a weight De La Hoya has fought at many times but Pacquiao had never previously approached. But this fight wasn't about size, it was about speed, and Pacquiao was by far the faster fighter.

Pacquiao was way ahead on all three judges' scorecards, with two judges having it 80-71 and one judge scoring it 79-72. Pacquiao improves to 48-3-2, with 36 knockouts. De La Hoya falls to 39-6.

Both fighters were, as always, classy afterward. Pacquiao approached De La Hoya in the ring and said, "You're still my idol." De La Hoya replied, "Now you're my idol."

It was great to see. Oscar suffered from losing the weight. Its a lot harder for an older guy to come down in weight then it is for a younger guy to go up. Pac Man fought his last fight at 135, but came in at 147 night of the fight so it was no issue for him to make weight. Oscar has not fought at 147 since 2001.

Either way it sets up a great return to the ring for Mayweather JR. His ego wont let him sit by and watch Manny get the P4P credit when he is at a weight that PBF is fighting at. At the end of the fight Oscar told Manny to call him. What do you want to bet that he wants to sign Manny to golden boy Prom, and set up a mega fight with PBF?
It would be a great fight and I would pay $60.00 to see it, maybe $70.00. No 2 P4P fighters ever ever met in their prime like this and it would be bigger then any fight in any realm that could be made. MMA would have nothing on this one.

I would love to see him try. Everyone thought Oscar was going to beat the Shiat out of Manny too. Manny might not have the ring skills as Mayweather, but he is a real fighter none the less. He could be the best fighter since Duran. You have to keep in mind the guy started his career at 105 lbs. this is a big jump for him. If he's smart and they sign this fight, he needs to do what Hagler failed to do against Leonard, and that make sure the use a 18 foot ring not 21 foot. this will cut down on Mayweather running away. Mayweather would be forced to trade shots, and i like Manny if thats the case. however....I have a hard time betting against Mayweather against a smaller guy. now if Mayweather fought Margarito, the real 147 pound champ...well, it wouldn't be much of a fight....

You think Mayweather would beat Margarito? Really?? I think Mayweather is great, just not at 147. Margarito is a natural Welter Weight and has fought at that weight his entire career. the guy is a machine that can not be hurt. I think Mayweather takes a knee after 7 or 8 rounds. I pick Cotto, and Mosley over Mayweather too. but against Manny, I have to go with Mayweather....maybe. I would love to see Mayweather overcome the pressure of the Filipino Buzz Saw. The Margarito fight will never happen. Mayweather has avoided that guy for 5 years, and I dont see that changing. Truth is, Cotto and Margarito are what forced Mayweather to retire. He didn't want to face them...I think his a coward personal.
