After he'd handed out 1,000 Thanksgiving
turkeys in his old Collier City neighborhood last year, Pittsburgh Steelers
free safety Tyrone Carter
saw people leave empty-handed. "I felt that I let a lot of people down, elderly ladies," Carter said.
For today's 2 p.m. giveaway, the Blanche Ely High School grad will pass out 2,000 free turkeys with wife April and their four children at McNair Park.
Carter knows what it is to want more. He recalled childhood holidays when his family didn't have the traditional table full of food.
Though Thanksgiving equals football for many, he's leaving his black-and-gold NFL
jersey at home."I don't do this for the hype," said Carter, who paid for the birds. "I'm just like one of them. That's the main thing."
