The Bengals travel to Pittsburgh riding a high after their tie against the Eagles this past Sunday. That's right, I said a TIE! They haven't had too many bright spots this year and to tie a team like the Eagles was a statement made by the Bengals. Plus the Steelers lost to the Eagles so that gives the Bengals even a more sense of hope against the Steelers.
When the Steelers and Bengals get together to play records and rankings are usually thrown out the window. This is a divisional game and both teams show up to play no matter how good or bad their season is going. The Bengals though are without their star QB Palmer who will miss yet another game. At the RB spot the Bengals are truly lost! They started the season with Johnson and Perry, Johnson ended up getting traded then it became Perry but he sucked so now it's primarily Benson and Watson. Both have shown glimpses of promise in the past, but so far they have been relatively quiet this year. It hasn't been the RB's who have been quiet, the entire Bengals offense has been quiet as well and are bringing up the rear for total offense in the NFL! Ocho Stinko has been quiet all year, Whosyourmama has showed up to a couple of games, for the most part though the Bengals offense just isn't the same as it has been in the past.
The Steelers defense is pretty much dominating the entire game. They lead the league in total defense, pass defense, run defense, sacks and are second for points given up. The defense dictates the outcome of the game and have really been carrying the offense the past few weeks. Granted Big Ben had a break out game this past Sunday throwing for more than 300 yards with 0 interceptions. The 0 interceptions was the biggest number that stood at because Ben had been getting into the Holiday Spirit a little early this year. Bottom line is the defense has been able to bail the offense out on numerous occasions this year and set the team up to win plenty of games.
Willie Parker returned to action last week and rushed for over 100 yards. This was a Willie that I had not seen in a while. He was running like he was on a mission, making people miss, hitting holes and exploding through them! That was an awesome performance and hopefully he can continue that this week against a week Bengals D that gives up well over 100 yards per game. Anything less than 150 from Parker and it will be considered a disappointed.
This is one of those game that could really come back to bite the Steelers in the ass. Looking at the Bengals record one would think this is a slam dunk "W" for the Steelers which is why it's a dangerous game. The Steelers need to be prepared and ready to rumble because the Bengals have nothing to lose! The keys for the game are:
- Ben needs to pick up where he left off this past Sunday
- Steelers Defense needs to continue what they have done all year
- The entire team needs to not look past the Bengals.
Join us this Thursday night as we talk about the game and cheer our Steelers to a victory!
