    STEELERS CLAIM HUNTLEY

The Steelers added a new name to their roster today when they claimed third-year defensive end Kevin Huntley off waivers from the Washington Redskins. Huntley (6-7, 290) originally signed with the Oakland Raiders as a rookie free agent from Kansas State in 2006. He played in the final five games of his rookie season with Oakland and registered 10 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a recovered fumble. He spent the 2007 season with the Atlanta Falcons and recorded three tackles while playing in five games.
The Steelers made room for Huntley on their roster by releasing rookie free agent defensive end Kyle Clement.

Anybody know anything about this guy?

yeah I just got the text a few minutes ago.

Huntley seems like a guy who just hasn't found his niche yet after being bounced around alittle bit. In the limited action he's seen since entering the NFL he's put up some pretty solid numbers. Based on our backup DE situation right now with Kirschke, McBean & Eason I think Huntley has a reasonable shout at beating out either Kirschke or or Eason so we'll see. I don't think they are ready to give up on McBean yet.

Really picking up Huntley what can it hurt?.....We have questionable depth and at least this guy has played in the NFL.....If it doesn't work out then it doesn't cost us much...At least there was an attempt before the season to improve our situation on the DL.....Who knows maybe this guy develops and turns into a player that at least can fit into our DL rotation....

Those #'s really look good for a rookie who only played 5 games on a defense that hurt Warren Sapp's performance. Maybe our system will suit Huntley better. He also has good size for our 3-4 at DE.

Yeah, the numbers aren't bad for his rookie year, then he dropped off as expected his second year and now in his 3rd he might turn out to be a good pickup!

Worst case scenario, he improves the competition for a spot. Good move.

My bet is that the Steelers will end up cutting 3 or 4 players below the mandatory 53 to make room for some free agent aquisitions from some of the other teams cuts. There will be a lot of talented players released. The better a team is the fewer new roster spots there are to fill. For example I was watching New England play on the NFL network and they were saying that they are stacked at O-line and were currently carrying 16 on their roster. Some of those will be available soon. Guaranteed the Steelers will be in the market looking for O-line and D-line diamonds-in-the-rough! Every team will have to make some tough decisions and cut players that they would like to keep. No doubt many GM's will be closely monitoring the waiver wires from here until final cuts are made.
