Steelers sign rookie KR Kevin Marion from Wake Forest

"Pittsburgh continues to ensure that this seasonís special teams will be addressed, as they signed former Wake Forest wide receiver Kevin Marion to a free agent contract today. The signing was in response to the release of Purdue wide receiver and return man, Dorien Bryant, who failed his physical yesterday.

Marion finished his collegiate career as Wake Forestís all-time leader in kickoff return yards. He was an honorable mention All-ACC selection as a return specialist in 2007. Marion led the ACC in kickoff return average at 31.3 and was third in the nation in return average.

Marionís career as a wide receiver didnít amount to much, as he amassed only 44 catches, for 518 yards. He wasnít a Demon Deacon for his receiving ability.

In 2007, Marion averaged the 31.3 return yards on 28 returns. He returned one for a touchdown, and 81 yard return in which Marion faked a hand off, than burst free for the touchdown. He ended the year with 876 kickoff return yards, and was second on the team in all-purpose yards. He runs a 4.3 40, which does make him an enticing prospect. Thereís no doubt what Marion was brought here for, I just donít see it happening for Marion, but the competition has never hurt anyone. At least the Steelers are trying to address the issue."

I'm just wondering why exactly we signed Mewelde Moore for if we're still in pursuit of kick returners?
"Can I have a taste of that humble pie now?"

4.3 40? Holy Cow!! well as long as he can hang on to the ball, he might bring some excitement to our return game we haven't seen in a long time.

If you donít stand behind our troops.....Please feel free to stand in front of them!!!

was Rossum costing us 2 much? I mean he wasn't a spark plug back there but he was reliable and sure handed, would atleast been a solid backup.I don't remember him fumbling all that much like Ried was doing.

"He's running around there, running his mouth, doing all that, but if you watch him on film and really look, where was Ray Lewis? He was nowhere to be found. I could have tackled the water boy and had as many tackles as him. He didn't do nothing today. He's all mouth. When you talk like that, that's what happens: You get hit in the mouth. He's over there crying now, thinking about what went wrong. You got your *** whipped, that's what." ~ Peazy

Yeah boy now THAT's what we need in our return game. You can't have too many good return men and considering last year our return game stunk, the guy we brought in to help out, Bryant, didn't pass his physical; this is a good signing. He and Moore will be the main return guys and will put Willie Reid as the odd man out IMO.

I don't think this guy is the answer, he may be quick, he may be fast, but there is a reason he wasn't drafted. Moore is the answer, this kid is just fodder.

Not to read into anything and Marion may never do anything in the NFL but Parker wasnt drafted either. So never say never. All it takes sometimes is a chance to let a player play. And the Steelers have been real good at that over the years.

Hopefully this kid will bring some excitement to the special teams unlike Rossum did last year
