The Pittsburgh Pirates and Freddy Sanchez have agreed to terms on a three-year contract — two guaranteed years plus an unusual option, with a total worth in the range of $19 million — and will annouce the deal at a Tuesday afternoon press conference the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Specific financial terms were not available Monday, but Sanchez is expected to get roughly $4.5 million in base pay for the coming season and about $6 million for the second season. There is also an option for 2010. The team has the right to exercise it, but Sanchez also can trigger it by performing at a certain level in the first two seasons.

Nice to see they locked up Sanchez, but they need some more power in the line-up to go along with him.
