Steelers vs. Jaguars (Wk. 2)

I've been a fan for 22 years and I've never panicked ever. Sure I get a little foul mouthed when things go awfully wrong like last night. I am sure Cowher had some excuses behind it, but I am always a Cowher Supporter. I enjoy his coaching style, his attitude, his firey passion for the game of football, and how his players respect and love this guy. We had an off night and Ben was just not himself. Like Steelerswoman said, I am very happy the Defense didn't give up a Touchdown, that speaks volumes. I hope Cincinnati realizes our defense is for real and we will stuff the kitties 6 feet under come Sunday cause the Steelers are going to be one pissed off team when they step on that field.

I thought our D played great and had our offense done anything we would have shut them out instead of us being shutout! Ben and our WR's looked way out of whack. Hopefully that is just the rust showing. Willie did what I figured he would do against a physical team, nothing. He's just not the type of back that can help us in games like this. Did they even play Davenport? I don't remember seeing him out there at all.

I don't think Najeh was out there at all. I would have liked to have seen him get a few touches since it just wasn't working for Willie.

Statistically, the Steelers and Jaguars look evenly matched on paper both offensively and defensively. The three keys I see for the Steelers to walk away with a "W" are:

1. Special Teams
2. Turnovers
3. Time of Possession

Looking at the 3 keys to winning this game, Jacksonville won 2 out of 3. If the offense can't let the defense get a breather the Steelers don't have a chance. Plus, after watching Troy run around with one arm last night, was it really worth it for him to be on the field?

Ben took at the end of the game. Helmet to the mid-section resulted in quite a grimace of pain. I hope that's the end of it and he did not hurt himself.

I agree with sticking with the run but I think you need a power back who extracts a cost from the defenders. Willie Parker doesnt punish people and I dont expect him to. Thats Duce's job..or Najeh's..but we don't seem to have a role for them on a night when Willie is getting tossed around like a rag doll. I blinked my eyes a few times as it looked like a Mularkey offense out there at times. What is Duce's currenr injury? Where was Najeh?

Props to:
- the JAX crowd for being vocal the entire game;
- the JAX punter and special teams who kept the Steelers starting most of
their drives inside the 20.
- the PIT defense. They were on the field a ton of time and were able to
hold JAX to 3 FGs (if you do that you've done your part to help your
team win the game).

Criticism to:
- Troy Polamalu; he wasn't in the game at all.
- Ken Wisenhutt; the play action worked in the first series, go back to it
more often.
- Bill Cowher: for starting Ben with a high fever. Anyone who's had a
high fever knows that there is a tendency for your judgment to be
impaired.
- Ben: He just wasn't ready, plain and simple (that being said, I don;t
know how successful Charlie would have been).

Big game coming up. They need to focus and play much better.

I feel almost as bad after this year's Jag game as I did last years.
I did predict the score correctly (on my site). The numbers were correct, just the wrong team, I said Steelers 6 Jags 3.

As for ben he needed this, even if it was a loss. He needed the game to get back to speed and get a rythem, he has a week of practice and will be better next week. Even if this was a loss, it was preparing him for the big game against the scumbags next week.

I feel the whole team needed it. They have been in the limelight for many months now and they needed this loss to bring them down to Earth and realize they are beatable.

But this "playing hurt" crap.......is just that crap.

We need Troy on Sunday much more than we did last night.

Yeah, Troy was essentially playing with one arm behind his back....we need him at 100% this week.
