Passion secure playoff spot
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Passion Women's Football, presented by US Foods, hosted the last regular season home game of the year. The organization was honored to have Rocco Alianiello, the Western PA Division President of US Foods, on hand for the commemorative coin toss. The Passion defeated the Columbus Comets, 22--0, and secured a 2012 playoff berth for Pittsburgh.
Defense commanded the 1st Quarter on both sides of the ball. Sherry Kring had a fake punt and threw a 22-yard completion to Jen Hoffman for a sweeping first down. Kate Sullivan led the Passion's Offensive Line. At the top of the 2nd, Kicker Amy Fallon completed a 25-yard field goal to put Pittsburgh on the board, and Quarterback Amanda Haeg found Receiver Rachel Wojdowski for a 33-yard touchdown. The Passion Defense kept Columbus scoreless through the 2nd Quarter, and Kim Zubovic delivered a roaring sack just before Halftime.
At the top of the 3rd, Octavia Griswold commanded a forced fumble and her sister Olivia Griswold recovered. Sonya Osselborn took in a 17-yard touchdown run. Deep in Passion territory, Pittsburgh's Krystal Cozzo clocked an enormous interception and raced it back to the 30 for 65 yards. To close the game, Amanda Haeg delivered a 15-yard touchdown run. Final score: 22--0.
Collectively, Octavia Griswold had 10 tackles and 1 forced fumble. Olivia Griswold had 7 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 1 recovery. Beth Amato had 8 tackles. Janice Masters had 7 tackles and 1 fumble recovery. Kim Zubovic had 6 tackles and 1 sack. Amanda Haeg had 12 carries for 57 yards and 1 touchdown.
